FORT MYERS BEACH

Fort Myers Beach The Great Calusa Blueway paddling trail winds its way along Fort Myers Beach located on Estero Island. Often called the world's safest beach, Fort Myers Beach has a wide shoreline that gently slopes into the Gulf. There are no steep drop-offs making it an ideal spot for a family paddling adventure.

Fort Myers Beach At the north end of the beach, a casual beach village with shops and restaurants is clustered along a tree-lined pedestrian walkway. The south end of the beach provides a wide selection of beachfront resorts in addition to Lovers Key State Park. The beach offers a wide variety of recreational activities, including marinas where you will find fishing and boating charters that offer daytime sightseeing, guided paddling tours, evening dining and dancing as well as offshore gambling. Activities aren't confined to just the Gulf side of the island. The Matanzas Pass Wilderness Preserve overlooking Estero Bay features more than 40 acres of live oak hammock and 4,000 feet of mangrove shoreline with an abundance of wildlife to enjoy from an elevated boardwalk.

BONITA BEACH

Bonita Beach Further south on Estero Island the trail winds its way down Bonita Beach. Exploration of this area reveals Florida as it once was. The remote island beaches here are considered to be some of the most beautiful in the area. The white sands and blue waters offer a chance to escape and relax to the sound of the surf gently rolling in from the Gulf. Bonita Beach, a four-acre pristine beachfront park, features a boardwalk to protect the sea oats, sand dunes and coastal vegetation surrounding a gazebo, grills and eight picnic shelters.

Bonita BeachInland water adventures can be just as relaxing as you treat yourself to the serenity of a canoe trip down the Imperial River. Or, tour the Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary, a place of quiet solace where you wind through pinelands, wet prairies and cypress grounds on an elevated boardwalk. Of course there's plenty of fishing available, with many offering boat rentals, guided paddling tours and fishing charters.

In the charming small town of Bonita Springs just south of Bonita Beach there is the Naples/Fort Myers Greyhound Track and the 19th-century remains of the utopian Koreshan community, a state historical site. The Koreshan community can be easily reached by water just of the trail. With some of the area's trendiest new shops and bistros located in this charming small town setting, there's a bit of Old and New Florida awaiting you in Bonita Springs.
